The Niagara Integrated Film Festival (NIFF) is rolling out the red carpet for its Oscar Party, giving Niagara residents the chance to celebrate Hollywood's biggest night in a gala setting with a genuine Academy Award winner and his own Oscar trophy.
Guests will meet Colin Chilvers, winner of an Academy Award for Special Achievement in 1979 for his work on the 1978 Superman movie, starring Christopher Reeve. Chilvers will have his own Oscar statuette on hand for guests to have their picture taken with the iconic golden trophy that represents the best in filmmaking. The English director and special effects coordinator was also involved in X-Men (2000) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Chilvers is also well known for his work with Michael Jackson, having directed the "Smooth Criminal" segment from Moonwalker.
Taking in the breathtaking sights of Niagara’s beautiful wine country, guests had a chance to enjoy a spectacular lineup of films – including multiple Canadian premieres – under the stars and in the theatres. Local wineries and chefs served guests extraordinary food, made with homegrown Niagara produce, paired with some of the regions best wines.
To close a wonderful weekend, filled with these remarkable experiences a selection of NIFF Awards were handed out on Sunday, June 21, at the White Oaks Resort and Spa, with nods going to both global and local filmmakers.
